Changing Mondays with Motivo to Music with Motivo for this week – the boss is out of town so here’s my chance!
I want to talk about the different ways music impacts everyone and brings people together. Everyone has songs that they play when they are sad, happy, angry, unmotivated, tired – you name it, we got a song for that.
Music has a unique power to provide a sense of togetherness while also sparking pure joy. Think of the time during the pandemic when this Italian neighborhood created a symphony from their balconies when everyone was quarantined. Or how about how each couple has a first song at their wedding? Or the days where you just need to sing your heart out in the car or on stage at karaoke?
We asked our team what their go-to karaoke song is and here were a few answers if you need some ideas…
Give Me One Reason – Tracy Chapman
It’s Tricky – Run DMC
Mr. Jones – Mike Jones
Stay (I Missed You) – Lisa Loeb
Halo – Beyonce
Danny’s Song – Loggins & Messina
Love on the Brain – Rihanna
Shameless – Garth Brooks
Don’t Stop Believin’ – Journey
Goodbye Earl – The Chicks
Any song by Taylor Swift (a very divisive topic here at Motivo)
Try and tell me you didn’t smile at least one of those songs or start to think of your own karaoke song! I was at a bachelorette party last weekend and the bride to-be had the whole bar shouting “Before He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood.
And then there is music therapy: an expressive art therapy that shows how music actually affects and stimulates the brain to alleviate mental health symptoms of various mood disorders, anxiety, depression, and so much more. Coming from someone with a mood disorder, I can’t vouch for music enough, there are days when it’s the only thing that gets me out of bed.
I’ll leave you with a song that is dear to my heart: “(No One Knows Me) Like the Piano” by Sampha (Spotify & Apple Music).
So tell me, what’s your favorite memory where music was involved? What is your go-to karaoke song? How has music impacted your life? I would love to hear it.
I hope this sparked some joy for your Monday morning and I invite you to continue your Monday with Motivo with our playlist: Spotify.
Thank you for letting me share and look forward to your responses!
Best,
